"Composed of a talented conglomeration of Ypsi-Ann Arbor-Detroit music scene vets, Sons of the Gun are one of the region's most celebrated acts. Their high-energy live shows and catchy pop, dirty rock 'n' roll is delivered with that distinct brand of Detroit soul and the group has won over audience after audience with their infectious songs."

Real Detroit, 1-17-2007 CD Review
"This is power-pop, no doubt, but Sons of the Gun sidestep the genre's frequently awkward posturing by embracing their quirks (lead singer Greg Mackiewicz’s falsetto is one surprise among a number of pleasant ones). - DM"
Current Magazine, Ann Arbor, MI
"Sons of the gun!" would chime Greg Mackiewicz's grandmother to
him and his friends when they became rowdy as children. Little did
she know that this saying would later name his bright-sounding,
upbeat guitar-and-drum-powered rock band.
Guitarist and vocalist Mackiewicz connected with bass guitarist
and vocalist Pat O'Harris at the Theater Bizarre in Detroit. Mackiewicz's
earlier band Aurora was known in the Detroit area in the
1990s. Drummer Cliff Carinci joined the other two after a healthy
run with the metal band Thrall.
Sons of the Gun draws on O'Harris's taste in classic rock,
Mackiewicz's interest in country music and Carinci's love of hard
rock and metal to create a soulful rock sound. Mackiewicz's vocals
are reminiscent of Hot Hot Heat's Steve Bays.
Mackiewicz wasn't allowed to listen to country as a child because
his father censored his record collection. Mackiewicz says
that he was "dead set on country," though, and used to swear that
he would never listen to rock.
Folk and country influences mark the band's subjects and lyrics.
Mackiewicz says that the band likes to "bring a story to a song"
and stresses that the "difference between bands is writing." Goodold
rock 'n' roll adds a sense of danger to the band's sound, which
is also polished with pop. "Any song that is good has an element of
pop," believes Mackiewicz, especially when "you're dealing with a
group of kids with a short attention span." Sons of the Gun strives
to balance substance and catchiness in their tunes — to not be too
"out there" and to retain something genuine.
Mackiewicz laments the waning public attention to the Detroit
music scene. "Detroit is hurting…..There's a lot of bands and not
enough people to see them," he says. Local music fans should keep
this in mind next time they're in the mood for a show.

Sons of the Gun is a culmination of several other bands from the general Detroit area. Founding member, vocalist and guitarist Greg Mackiewicz, is best known for his work with his former Ann Arbor based band Aurora. Drummer Cliff Carinci worked with Reptilian and Alternative Tentacles label artists Thrall. Pat O'Harris, formerly the bassist and a lead vocalist for the Ypsilanti based Mugshots, is featured on bass and backing vocals.
Together, Sons of the Gun are working to create what will soon be known as one of the exciting new sounds of Detroit. Their music consists of finely crafted pop songs that bring rock-n-roll to a new and fresh level. Influences range anywhere from the Stones to XTC. Truly a melting pot of rock-n-roll with a distinct Detroit soul. The catchy songs and sincere lyrics will leave listeners wanting more. This is a must see band.We have recorded with Detroit's infamous Jim Diamond (white Stripes, Dirtbombs, etc) of Ghetto Recorders who specializes in using vintage equipment and with Mr. Dave Niles. Currently the band is recording new material with Sponge member Andy Patalan at "The Loft" studio in Saline, MI.; expect more material very soon. A tour of Europe is planned for Feb 2009.If you have any difficulty reaching us via myspace, email Greg at [email protected] band is ready to roll and willing to travel - WE WANT TO PLAY!!!
