About Me

Mellor is a village situated in the Borough of Ribble Valley in Lancashire, England. It is reasonably large in size for a village as it has two churches, a school, a public house and a hotel, as well as a post office, several shops, and a nuclear bunker. There is also an old quarry and the remains of an eel farm that was destroyed by fire in the 1990s.Mellor Moor, overlooking the village, is the site of a Roman station.Atop the highest hill on the Mellor Moor is a disused nuclear bunker from the Cold War era. The bunker was suitable for a small group of people, and came with beds, a toilet and shower, air circulation to prevent suffocation underground, a refrigerator, and recreation table for games of chess or backgammon. A plaque once marked the sealed enterance to the bunker, but this has since been removed by vandals. Although never used, the bunker serves as a harrowing reminder of harder times to the villagers down below.Mellor has a village hall, situated near the centre of the village. It hosts many activities, such as football, tennis, bowls and hockey. The hall is also used for other activities, such as line-dancing, disco parties and exercise workouts for the elderly. The hall is available to rent out, so you can hold your own parties or activities. The village hall also functions the community centre for the village, where residents can go to discuss on how to improve the local area. Close to the village hall is a playing field and a tennis court which proves very popular in the summer. There is a local myth from the early 1950's of the Mellor Dwarf who roams the Moors. The myth is still believed today by older residents of the village, but most think of it as a sick joke.In the centre of the village there is a playground for young children. There is also a small public library and a doctor's office, which share the same building. The library is popular with young children, as it offers computers with access to the internet and a handful of interesting books. The doctor's office is popular with the ill and invalid, as it offers health advice and a handful of interesting pamphlets. MyGen Profile Generator
