AS AN ARTIST I am in the beginning stages of forming a traditional Laotian dance troupe called LAO SUNG DANCE TROUPE to preserve and transmit the Lao heritage to the younger generations. A passing of a Legacy so to speak. I am humbled and honored to be a carrier of a small piece of my culture and tradition. I like to engage in cultural exchanges with people from other backgrounds. The recognition of our common humanity gives me great pleasure and makes me feel like I belong and a part of this earthly family.AS AN ACTOR I have decided to shift my focus from pursuing acting as a career to one of a hobby. My priorities have changed. I came to Hollywood on an ego-trip seeking fame and fortune and along the way that trip has transformed into a spiritual journey. I am awakened to what's really important in life--the giving and receiving of love. I'm no longer interested in out-shining my fellow man as much as my desire to contribute to the stream of life. How can I be of maximum service, a friend among friends, a worker among workers, one among the many. It's not all about me anymore (well, except this blurb...haha!) and thank God for that. A recent turn of events based on the choices that I've made has led to my newfound and much needed enlightenment. I came to the realization that the one thing I want the most in this life (and is my deepest heart's desire) is to feel like I belong and that I am a part of and that my life has a purpose. The most wonderful insight is the knowledge that I do belong, I am a part of, I do have a purpose, I am loved and am capable of giving love. If wisdom is knowledge applied, then all I have to do is put what I've learned in recovery into action in my life. This blessing is nothing less than an AMAZING GRACE. I am truly grateful for the people who've gone before me. The spiritual warriors who've gone through their darkness and sank to the depths of their souls to find their strengths and brought back the Boone--that there is a way out and it's in the 12-Steps Program of Recovery. They are my Heroes!!! They helped lift me up and taught me the important lessons of letting go and letting God. With that said, I am still very much passionate about the arts and will continue to be a patron any chance I get. Who knows, I might even be an occasional participant in a Musical or Play that comes my way. Just so I can still satisfy that need to perform. I am most grateful that I have found my true calling. Which is to help elevate my fellow man. Chief among them are the alcoholics and drug addicts seeking help like myself. I hope that one day I will be able to use my experience, strength and hope to help someone else who's suffering from this insidious dis-ease of alcoholism and drug addiction. Until then, I'm just gonna take it one day at a time.AS A WRITER I have finished writing my first draft of an hour long pilot spec script about a group of Gaysians and their friends navigating the different divides of the Atlanta Gay Community. I am taking a break from writing so I can rewrite with fresh perspective.AS A DANCER I choreographed and taught a Laotian folk dance workshop for TeAda Productions at Beyond Baroque Theater in Venice in February of 2008. I also helped choreographed and danced in a piece called "Touch" for East West Player's Conservatory Command Performance in the summer of 2006.AS A POET As a ritual for my coming out as an artist, I performed three of my original poems to music and movement naked in front of 300 people on New Year’s Eve 2006. That was the most liberating and terrifying, but yet satisfying experience of my life. Will I do it again? Probably not. Once is enough. My poem "Rendez-Vous" was published in Vice Magazine while living in New York City in 2000. I also published several of my poems on www.asianamericanpoetry.com under my writer name Nakhone Keodara.AS A HUMAN-BEING I recently took part in Kelly Morgan's One With Source workshop where we created the Artist's Way workshop for the next class starting on February 11, 2008. I started and finished my writing project during the Vision Quest workshop with Kelly Morgan at the SUBUD Center in an effort to fulfill my vision quest and to continue cultivating the Artist's Way practice and to learn how to write my life script with love.ON A PERSONAL NOTE, I have worked very hard to get to where I am at in life and I've persevered through many obstacles. Booker T. Washington once said that "Success is not to be measured by the position someone has reached in life, but the obstacles he has overcome while trying to succeed.†By his standard, I am a successful spiritual being having a human experience. To be sure, I wasn't born with a silver spoon in my mouth. In fact, my parents brought our family to America as refugees seeking political asylum. Yeap, it's true. We even lived in a Refugee Camp for 2 years and then making a stop in the Philippines (who are beautiful and gentle people, by the way) for six months before migrating to this Country. With that said, I am more than one particular thing. I embrace both the male and female energy within me. I have no qualms about putting on a dress for work, to entertain friends or compete in a pageant. I'M BEAUTIFUL, DAMN IT!!! It doesn't mean I'm living my life as a woman. I'm not a Tranny by any stretch of the imagination. I am an actor and can be a drag queen on command. I have lots of and love all of my Transsexual friends. They're the ones who jump-started the Gay Revolution and I'm grateful for them that I can live my life as an openly out gay man today. It's taken a long time and a lot of pain for me to grow into who I am and I am quite proud of the person I've become. For better or for worse, I look forward to examining my life so I can ultimately say that I've been to me...Namaste!!!
