Pawns In Motion is a musical experiment with no boundaries headed by frontman Richie Leyland (Pulsimeter, Phukoph). Leyland has an affinity for being creative, keeping diversity as well as distinction and breaking rules of genre by blending and dividing all sorts of sounds and moods, but of course rocking out is encouraged. This is a project that has gone through many name changes and demos and the first album titled "Law of Proximity" was completed back in 2005. Throughout the listening you can hear the distinction between the 13 tracks it contains. Leyland played a majority of the instruments on the album, except drums and some programming and keyboard elements. The album has appearances by Bobbi Hatchet of The Rabies doing additional vocals on "My Fears Have Come To Life" and additional keyboards on the album by Aaron Chiz (Scary Monsters, Pollock).
Pawns In Motion had a brief lineup of Kyle Henning on bass and Aron Carter on drums. Shortly after, the band had dispersed and moved onto other projects. Leyland worked on other projects including the comedy band Phukoph which has developed a cult following in the Buffalo area and did sound work on the independent historical epic "Nicholas Of Myra" due out in theaters in 2010.
After a three-year hiatus, Leyland decided to get Pawns In Motion rolling again. Work has begun on the follow-up to 2005's "Law Of Proximity" which shows the evolution that the project is going through and definitely shows expansion on the music and songwriting. The search is underway for new musicians to complete the fold and the effort aims to get Pawns In Motion recognized on even a greater level. Stay tuned for more updates to come.
