I am Josh, but people often get me confused with Grug, a little grass tree man featured in children's literature. This is quite possibly because my hair is, admittedly, quite plant-like. It may also be because I have adventures (Josh at the Snow, Josh in the Field, Josh at the Pub) which bear alarming resmblance to Grug's own escapades. Unlike Grug, I enjoy playing music. A Fair Bit too. Music for me is something that I can't not do (woah, double negatives man). No matter how frustrated I get, the music is there. Music is something I often struggle with. I always want to be better (who doesn't? except maybe those people who make a living claiming sick/injury compo), but sometimes the (I guess you'd call it) ambition overshadows the actual act of playing music. I want to find the right balance, where ambition does not overshadow the playing of music, and vice versa. I get there a little bit at a time. I'm learning to simply love playing, and to let it take it's course. It really is a journey. Everytime I play I feel I go one step further along the way. It is one of the greatest things I will ever learn. When I'm not worrying about worrying about music, I actually play it. And when that happens, it is usually lap-guitar style slide. I love my dobro the way only someone who has found a special bond with an instrument can. Each time I play it, I find another, sometimes delicate, sometimes blaringly obvious nuance of its sound. It too is one of the greatest things I will ever learn. Apart from that, open tunings are fun, and I'm a big fan of a sing-along. I dabble in piano, or maybe on piano. Playing didgeridoo isn't unheard of either. For a kid who couldn't catch a cricket ball to save his life, circular breathing is the most co-ordinated thing I can do. I love to jam with other people. It inspires me so much. For me, music made on the spot (that's improvisation folks) is the most special. It can go really well, really badly, or somewhere in between, but it is always a challenge and an experience, regardless of the outcome. Improvisation is a good teacher. Aside from music, I love (in no particular order - just covering my back) good food, good (maybe even "boutique") beer (and shut up Riley, I can tell the difference), Berri Marsh (whose fault it is I have a MySpace - also, probably should have been fisrt, lucky I covered my back eh?), my friends, a surf (when I can get to the beach - 19 years old, with an EXPIRED L's licence...hmm), the sun on my skin, not wearing shoes (at all, when I can help it), cultivating interesting facial hair, and being me. The End. Thanks For Stopping By.
