Music came into play shortly after I began Junior High School at M.S. 141. Having lacked much of a family life or a childhood for that matter, I began writing to escape my emotional distress. My musical choice was not always my own as a young boy. Being raised in a Hispanic household meant the genres of salsa and merengue poured boisterously through the living room speakers. I will never forget the day I was old enough to choose my own music. I took a ride to the record store and had my grandfather purchase both The Notorious B.I.G's "Ready To Die" and The Fugees "The Score" for me. These albums would drastically change my life. The stories of survival and struggle on each album helped me heal. The genius and lyricism that went into every song helped me learn to create positive out of negative. I knew that this was not only something I could do, but something I could be great at.
I suffered through a long battle trying to stay in a group while touring with a manager that was laundering money and selling our music to a solo artist. I did not write this to try and be ostentatious or gain any pity from you. It's been years in the making, and my craft has been mastered. I can only hope to open the eyes and ears of the people who do not know me, and get them to believe in me as much as others do.
French author Victor Hugo once said, “There is nothing like a dream to create the futureâ€. Here I am.
