From the Post and Courier, January 31 2008:
The relatively newly formed quintet White Rhino is quickly turning heads around the Charleston music scene with its moving and heartfelt brand of folk, country and indie. With most of its members being recent transplants, White Rhino was formed through newspaper ads and chance encounters. But the band's distinct solidarity doesn't really offer a hint as to the circumstances of its formation. If The Decemberists took on a more Americana style, perhaps the band's name would be White Rhino.
From the White Rhino press kit:
White Rhino came together in early 2007. Daniel had just moved to town from Berklee by way of Nashville and began teaching drums in the room next door to the studio where Aaron was teaching guitar and writing tons of songs. Katie responded to an ad for a harmony vocalist and as it turned out she played a mean violin and viola as well. Ben was also new to town and despite (or perhaps because of) his use of the word "alas" in response to an ad for a multi-instrumentalist he fit in immediately. The rest is the history we're currently living.
