Deft Inspiration

About Me

Small stature, small frame, but beaming with talent and unique vibrations. Her melodic tones, smokey and mood invoking rhymes erupt from such a soft delicate voice. You would wonder who's the new neo soul album playing in the background that's got you grovin'. Then you realize it's a sultry young lady blessing your ears live with rhythms and funky guitar beats strummed under an intimate voice that draws you in! EBONYLION is black, strong and wise beyond her years and it shows through her powerful and at times revolutionary music. At the impressionable age of 11 she began to write. Poems and raps she would record on her small personal tape recorder capturing her thoughts and innocent beliefs about images and songs that encompassed the world around her. Living in Denver, Colorado since the age of 9 it was a big change from the southern life of Gainesville, Florida. From beaches to the streets of middle class suburbia, she began to lose herself in her thoughts that she then put into words. Influenced by the classics like Aretha Franklin, Oleta Adams, and Anita Baker she was surrounded by thick black tones of love and heart ache that penetrated the walls on early Sunday mornings in her mother's house. But school beats brought a new rise and influential sound of the powerful yet up and coming new rap age. Coming out of the "Fight the power" and "Lets talk about sex" MTV generation. Now Tupac, Ice Cube and Snoop Doggy Dog bumped through the radio air waves. The young adolescent found new inspiration in the hip hop beats that buzzed through the middle and high school walls. At the age of 14 she was signed to an up and coming Record Label Pump It Up Productions based out of Denver, CO. The young lioness's rap style intrigued the new label, but was furthermore moved by her passionate and direct lyrics that vividly painted a picture. The executives heard about her song writing skills and personally asked her to be on their team of writers for their new acts. Ebony put her own raps on the back burner and took on the tedious work of writing and teaching lyrics and melodies to all new acts that came into the company. It had never crossed her mind about her own singing abilities she thought that rapping was her thing! But after long nights of singing to the inexperienced artists she began to realize the strenghth of her own voice and that she sung her own songs the best! Still engaged in poetry she published work that received awards and praise, but her love for music grow stronger everyday. Pump It Up Productions fell through the cracks and she was left with nothing from all her hard work except a new found confidence in writing and arranging songs that took your heart and soul far up the mountains and deep down into the valleys of blues and rhythm. Then at 16 she began recording in studios of other local personal music icons. Fascinated by the powers of the functions and possibilities of a recording studio she played with her own vocal range and depth. She could then capture the emotions of her songs using weeping and whining back ground melodies that filled the bodies of those who listened. The rising star desired to cawled deeper into her craft and picked up her first guitar for her twenty first birthday. It was like magic. She fell in love with the ability to mold her voice around the tones and notes of the guitar. This took her song writing to another level! Only 5 foot 2, Carmel skinned and a head full of luscious locs she is fast rising to embodiment of her name EBONYLION. Like the lioness she is she comands your attention with her presents and her ancestial lyrics. Gracing the stage as though its her thrown she is a queen ready to unvail herself to the musical world. Performing in various coffee shops and clubs she has sharped her skills. Taking the stage with popular goups like Denver's own Future Jazz. She is welcomed with warm coes and thundering applause. EBONYLION has been featured on R&B tracks, mixed cds, and tantalized her silky pipes across the hard hip hop beats of Denver's finest Rap groups. Her first debue album titled Kinetic NRG doesn't show the artist's energizing and invoking performance like seeing her live. Her more recent work better portrays her revolutionary and lyrical range and quality. Apart of the rising Denver talent Ebonylion's bluzie folk sound is penetrating through the streets of the city. You can see her on the 2nd edition of Joe Lyon's multimedia DVD (Waz Out) where she blows her velvet sounding songs she wrote inspired by love and the ebb and flows of personal relationships. Keep your eyes open for this black lioness on her way to the top. A rizing star in her community and yours. In her own words she says her goal is to inspire those through her own lessons and possibly carry many through the treading of their own personal growth. " If it is up to me and it is up to me I will be heard in the homes and hearts of all around the world. I desire to thank those who are helping me along the way with my own dreams and live in prayer to be a pivotal part of the dreams of others. I love life and I want life to love me in return and the power of music is uncontainable. Music is the place where the spirit can live and wait for you to listen to its secrets."
