About Me

Hey y'all, my name is Miss Hannah Hokes. I am the next country star of the past, and proud of it. There's a certain something missing in country music these days-- where is the heart achin' honesty, the lonesome soulfullness, the gut-wrenching sadness of those great ol' country songs of the last century? Nashville has given up denim and dirt for glitz and glamour, and it's a cryin' shame. Most of the songs on the radio nowadays either sound alike, or are just plain over-produced, watered-down imbecilic pop. There were many great female artists in the "hayday," so to speak. Of course when you think of women pioneers in country music, names such as Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, and Tammy Wynette immediately come to mind. But there were some other ladies, too, who infused the landscape with their lyrics and tunes... ladies like Dusty Springfield, Jeannie C. Riley, Tammy Wynette, Bobbie Gentry, Lynn Anderson and many, many more. I aim to bring you some of the great songs that maybe never made it to airplay, tracks buried deep in the dusty and scratched grooves of well-worn vinyl. I'd like to accompany those songs with some great videos, too. You don't have to be a redneck to like me... but it certainly wouldn't hurt--Hannah

Band Members: As of now, the only song I have recorded is "Back Side of Dallas," produced and recorded by the dynamic duo of Mr. Rid and Mr. Robinson right here on, well, the back side of Dallas. I am currently rounding up musicians who are like-minded about the sad state of country music, roots rock and Southern rock. If you play one of the following and live near Dallas, e me! I'm looking for guitar, lap steel, bass, banjo, fiddle, harmonica... anybody out there play the saw or washboard?
Influences: Tammy Wynette, who has passed on to the Great Opry House in the Sky on April 6th, 1998. Oddly enough, Wendy O. Williams of The Plasmatics was a huge fan of Miss Wynette's, having recorded her own version of Tammy's hit song "Stand By Your Man," and took her own life the same day Tammy died. Also, Miss Jeannie C. Riley is a huge influence on me, as well as June Carter Cash, her husband Johnny, and some of the songs Lee Hazelwood wroted with Nancy Sinatra are pretty damn fine, too.
Record Label: Gravid Sound Recordings
