Something magical happens when Andrea Beemer’s hands touch a piano keyboard. It’s almost as if the music you hear floats from her fingertips as effortlessly and as naturally as your own breathing. And then there are the words, words that we could have written about our own lives. From Andrea’s song Reveal, “… my scars are deep, my wounds are deeper, I long for You to heal me.†These are simple and yet powerful words that seem to adhere to our hearts, the message pulsing as blood through our veins. Says Andrea, “I’ve always found that writing or journaling is a way for me to truly express to God and others how I feel and to record what He is doing in my life. Singing is another way for me to express this, and I feel I can be the most passionate about what I’m trying to say through putting words to music. I truly feel this is what God has called me to do. I don’t know where He plans to take me in the future, but I plan to go with a servant’s heart wherever He leads.â€.
Andrea’s music has been compared to several well-known talents such as Nichole Nordeman, Joy Williams, and Natalie Grant, but to know Andrea is to realize that there is no imitation. She is simply who she is without apology or pretense. She is simply and uniquely Andrea.
Andrea’s talents began at an early age in Blue Springs, Missouri, as an aspiring poet. Coming from a musical family, she was urged to take piano lessons. Frustrating her mother and her instructor, Andrea would often leave the printed music and play things as she thought they should be played. She began to understand that music was more than just 88 piano keys; music was a powerful medium to effect change. With a talent for words and a gift for music, she began to write the songs in her soul, and music bloomed into a holy and powerful calling. Wanting to make a difference with her music, she entered the University of Kansas City, Missouri, (UMKC) where she studied music therapy.
Andrea is working on her second album as a relatively new artist with Cross Eyed Records. She signed with the record label in 2006,and as a result now has the freedom to perfect each song without time or money constraints. Says Beemer, “My second album is different than the first because the songs have a lot more depth to them. As I grow older and grow more in my relationship with Christ, I feel that I’m learning a lot more about what God has in store for me in my life. The music behind the lyrics has more of an edge to it with some powerful instrumentation and vocals. As my lyrics have grown, my music has grown as well.â€
Andrea’s sophomore project, with projected release in mid 2007, not only possesses the depth of maturity, but also displays a bold and contemporary sound. Her song so aptly named “Bold†explores the challenge of being courageous in our testimony. “Why is it so easy to hide behind a wall? Why is it so hard for me to speak at all? I will only speak if I’m spoken to; I need the courage and it comes from You. I wanna be bold each and every day. I wanna be told the words You want me to say; I wanna be bold.â€
And Bold she is. Like a whirlwind Andrea is taking her message to the world. She plays several nights a week at coffee shops and leads worship for various churches with frequency. She acts as part time engineer at Infinity Productions recording studio, as well as being sound tech and media supervisor for the First Baptist Church of Raytown’s Metro service. Yet Andrea still finds time to write, record, and perfect her unique and inspired ministry.
For Andrea, it’s all about worshiping God and doing her best to amplify the gifts and talents He’s given her. As Andrea says in her song, “Service of Worshipâ€, “It’s not about me, it’s only for Your glory. And I will lay down all my pride to tell of Your great story. I have come to worship You. I know that it is worth it. I will lay down all of me in a service of worship.â€
