About Me

Review by Marle Becker

"A NEW CD FROM J. MICHAEL REEDS CALLED "8TH AND MONA LISA" HAS HAPPILY JUST LANDED ON MY CD PLAYER. THIS IS A FIRST EFFORT FOR THE LIKABLE SINGER AND IT'S AN IMPRESSIVE DEBUT INDEED. REEDS HAS COME UP WITH SOME NICE MATERIAL AND IT'S CLEAR FROM HIS MUSICAL SELECTIONS THAT HE'S A FAN OF THE LATE, GREAT, NAT "KING" COLE. AMONG OTHER GOODIES, REEDS WRAPS HIS SMOOTH STYLE AROUND SUCH COLE FAVORITES AS "A BLOSSOM FELL", "MONA LISA", AND MY PET PERFORMANCE ON THE CD, "YOU'RE LOOKING AT ME". ON THIS ONE HE SHINES AND GETS AS MUCH IRONY OUT OF THIS RARELY HEARD GEM AS BOTH NAT "KING" COLE AND THE GLORIOUS JAZZ SINGER CARMEN MCRAE HAVE IN THE PAST. CD IS WORTH THE PRICE FOR THAT GOODIE ALONE. MY ONLY COMPLAINT IS THE CD IS TOO SHORT BUT DON'T LET THAT STOP YOU FROM LISTENING. I LOOK FORWARD TO MORE FROM THIS COOL DUDE."

J. MICHAEL REEDS "8th & MONA LISA"

"8th & Mona Lisa" is the new album from native New York City singer/performer J. Michael Reeds. On the expertly produced, eight-song disc, the artist treats the listener to his interpretations of an octet of songs written by artists as diverse as American icon Bobby Troup to counterculture heroine Rickie Lee Jones.
