Fumbata

mood-altering bass-thumpin' poly-rythmic mayhem

About Me

Originally, Fumbata was a neo-soul band, coming up in the Atlanta underground. I was the drummer, backup vocalist, and one of our composers. We dissolved in 2001, but I kept the name. I had been writing electronic music for years, but I started writing in earnest then, and within a few months, had enough material to release my first album. It's been rolling steady since then! Some thoughts: Music is everywhere. Melody is everywhere. Rhythm is everywhere; which is awfully convenient, because it's the basis of everything I do. I guess I'm a natural percussionist. I used to get into trouble in school for drumming on the desk: when I'd get bored in class, I'd make up beats and tap them out. Anything can be a percussion instrument.Music is everywhere, all around us. It's all music. Hell, it's why I make music. I hear these melodies and rhythms in my head, and it's not anything I've heard before, so I figure I should write them down, record them, make them real.

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: fumbata.com
Band Members: Just me, playing Reason, drums, bass, vocals, guitar, keys, ukulele, and various other noisy stuff.
Influences: Everything I hear. The stuff on my iPod, the crap on the radio, the background music in the elevator, the screech of the subway doors opening, the pounding at the construction site next door: it's all music to me.
Sounds Like: Electronica/IDM with an ever-changing, cinematic feel. Lush instrumentation and orchestration revolves around pulsing beats and heavy bass. Although it's always held down with steady beats that make you wanna move, these tracks are always a little left-of-center. (I'll always choose "interesting" over "predictable"). Sounds like: NIN, Speedy J, Underworld, Plaid, Bjork (without the killer vocals), Meat Beat Manifesto, Dieselboy, Photek, a Guy Called Gerald, DJ Shadow. Always varied, never plain.
