About Me
Slick River is a Blues and Garage Rock band from Long Island, New York. We formed in the summer of 2006 and began writing original material to play at local shows. We rock like the 1800's never went out of style. Outlaws & Bandits, Whiskey and Guns, Saloons & Gambling, all mixed up with Blues and Rock N Roll! We have been gigging around Long Island and recording as many demo's as we possibly can and giving them out for FREE everywhere we go! We will currently play shows anywhere in the Tri-State Area and perhaps if you ask we might travel a little farther to rock out your city! Contact us via myspace.com/riverqueenproductions for all booking needs!
The History:
- It all started when Montana Jennings and Luke "The Shoes" grabbed some acoustic guitars and started jamming at a Beer Pong Tournament up in New Paltz, NY. After their defeat in the tournament the real entertainment began, and an idea was birthed. After a couple of jams, this idea/project evolved into "Slick River". To solidify Slick River, Montana recruited his brother Peter (Jennings) to write and perform vocals, Myke Nytemare on the Bass and Tank B. (splitting the role of drums and keys at first then settling into just keys). Montana and Nytemare had known each other from previous bands, as did Tank and PJennings. Both of them wanted to create a band that would be great to be in, put out cool new music, and just have fun. And as for the other guys, well, they were allready bandmates in Harold's Trousers . They continued jamming and trying out drummers until after some initial lineup changes, Montana, Myke, Peter and Tank found the final link in the chain that would solidify and complete the band with a permanent drummer, Marc Yozay.
- In their first year they recorded two demos before they suffered their first drowned member (that's what happens when you fall off the boat, you drown). Anyway, Tank was just too overwhelmed being in 3 bands, so he had to part ways, but we still love him (in a gay romantic way). The River kept writing new music for a few months until Myke opted out of the band. Slick River resumed after a short search for a replacement and settled with bass player James Harley Mann III. In 2007, SR quickly returned to the recording process to add the final tracks to the trio of demo's that would be known as The Silver Bullets Sessions.
- The band continued on and over the course of the next year had played extensively and then took a 6 month hiatus from live performance in the fall of '08. New songs were written throughout the following summer. In the fall of 2009, as the River crew made their comeback they again changed over to a new bass player, Tom "Tuna" Tunison, with whom the band will record their next set of songs and begin rocking out the Long Island area once again.
The Silver Bullets Sessions:
- In December 2006 the guys in the River began recording their first CD in their West Babylon studio. Titled SILVER BULLETS, the disc contains 5 original tracks including "Sledgehammer That Bitch!" and the country blues tune "West Pacific" which closes the EP.
Perpetual Toxins Magazine says:
"Slick River's Silver Bullets demo takes you back to a completely different era. While most local bands are into emo, punk, hardcore and indie rock, Slick River's classic blues, garage rock and old school R&B influences are sure to make them stand out...The group's demo sounds like something right out of the Sixties."
The Silver Bullets sessions have continued and have been reissued in the spring of 2007. The SB Sessions vol2 CD has been dubbed Silver-er Bullets and contains a total 10 tracks including 5 new tracks, and the original 5 silver bullets tracks). New songs include the brutally intense opener "Razorburn" and the laid back groove of "Nobody's Fool."
The third edition to The Silver Bullets Sessions was finalized at Star Sound Studios in Islip, NY. Engineered by Drew Howard, four new songs were recorded with our second bass player James Harley Mann III and return guest appearances by Jess DeBellis on Keys. The straight blues jive of "Conway" reflects the roots of the band while "Mexico" shows just how aggressive we can be, like a gun fight!
