The Weather

About Me

The Weather is a Kansas City band with a broad, melodramatic barroom sound. The featured tracks are rough demos, but show promise with its jaunty piano and warm vocals. Formed as a trio comprising John Vinson (vocals), Garrick Clayton (guitar, vocals) and Tyson Thompson (keyboard, vocals) in the Fall of 2005, the band recently added Corey Chatman on drums this past fall."Compared to Me" reminds me of another local band, Shudder, except this band has a leaner sound with less harmonic convergence vocally. The band states that their music bears influences of psychedelic pop, classic country and blues rock. Brash psychedelic outbursts a la Allen Ginsberg's "Howl" come to mind with the opening of "Blue Girl" before the vocals settle down. Another song, "Contagious Disease," found on the group's Myspace site has a dirty guitar bite and vocal approach that evoke The Doors meets The Beatles (plugged in, blissed out) as the whole escapade lurches home like a broke drunkard. The Weather released their debut album on Red Bed Records in September 2007, and are completing the writing for their sophomore effort to be released later in 2008.
