Vilja Rough Luksus

"I only know to sing 5 notes. But they work." An early statement from a critical dudette...Some years later with a palmful of new tones and tunes Vilja is a singer-composer-producer from Helsinki, Finland. Since 2002 her main project is ECHOSYSTEM, a 7 member orchestra with a unique sound merging brazilian rhythms, funk, jazz and breakbeat. Vilja loves to call it fusion, but that causes confusion: limited visions and bad vibes in many music lovers. Echosystem's debut album Madaga was released in January 2007 (Presence Records). Recently it was also released in Japan. ---------ROUGH LUKSUS is Vilja's every-other-day-side or quintal as producer. She works on experimental lofi beats, vocals and sophisticated electronica. There's more music to come, but she's temporarily been without proper un-pro home studio gear since returning from Brazil----------In July 2006 Lusine (Jeff McIlwain) released Weaver, with Vilja's vocals all tweaked, on Emerald EP (Ghostly). (The Weaver in this myspace player is her original Rough Luksus version.) Later on she's been working in Austria with CERTAIN SUBJECTS guys. That's icy cosmic house and future soul sung in Portuguese and English.----------During 2006 Vilja lived 9 months in Salvador, Brazil. She started a vocal-percussion group with CARLOS MOSCA improvising, unifying afro-bahian grooves and traditional styles with soul and attitude.----------Back to Helsinki, it's landscape architecture now...
