The Dixie Boys Info………..Dixie Boys, whose main influences are the 40s Country and 50s Rock-A-Billy ,are originating from Oporto, North-Portugal , the first appearance live happened in June,17th , 1994, in the DºAlbuquerque Bar, in the riverside of Vila Nova de Gaia.
The first formation was composed by Filipe Barbosa (Big Phil) as the Vocals, Rui Ferreira (WildBillyJay) in the Bass, Fernando Pereira (Scouby Pickin’ Douby) in the Lead guitar, Ricardo Lima in the Acoustic guitar and Carlos Mancha as the Drummer. Therefore after the first gig, Carlos Mancha left the band and it was replaced by Nuno Gomes (Now 49 Special and Meandevils Drummer).
In Dec.1995 they participated with two original themes in the Portuguese Rockabilly "Portugal Rockers." In the promotion of the "Portugal Rockers†the Acoustic guitar was already Jorge Seabra (Kid), and Rui Ferreira (Jay) also opts for the Upright bass.
In ends of 1999, the band extinguishes, tends an abbreviation appearance in the Oldies Bar in 2001, in Oporto.
In August of 2005, Rui Ferreira (Jay) and Fernando Pereira (Scouby), Dixie Boys' two founders decide to cameback and after the refusal of Big Phil and Jorge Kid, they recruit two new Cats, Ricardo Prazeres (Lucky Rick) as Vocals and Acoustic guitar and Mário Cunha (braVo) for the Drums.
The main influences continue to be the 50s Rockabilly, tends as reference the years forty and fifty. The band counts in his historial with performances for the whole country and also Spain, prominence for the passages for the nostalgic Palha dAço and Reimão bar in Oporto, Heritage Jazz Club in Matosinhos, Conciliu Bar in Barcelos, Sardinha biba in Braga, Radical West in Aveiro, Scocht Club in Coimbra, Johnny Guitar in Lisbon .Also in private clubs as the British club of Oporto.
In Spain passages for ruby Casino in Barcelona, Pink elefant in Torremolinos and Trillo byte in Madrid.
Since 2005 they have been countless concerts, as they say " always in Combat", highlight for the Culto Bar in Almada, Lounge Bar in Cais do Sodré in Lisbon, UpTown Bar, Contagiarte, Tendinha dos Clerigos, Ryan's Irish Bar, Porto Rio and the special Hot Five Jazz & Blues in Porto, Mondego Irish Pub , Ar de Rato in Coimbra, Casablanca Rock and Roll Club in Vigo and the passage for Rockabilly International Fest “Great Shakin'Fever 2" in Porto, 2007 have been opening of doors and they already count with Gigs in Algarve, the “ Hell-Garveâ€: Som Liquido in Tavira, Soc. Recreativa of Olhão, Beiral Rock in Estói-Faro, Speed Squad in Loulé, S, Barbara de Nexe in the Dixieland, Up Bar in S.Braz of Alportel, also in Lisbon and surroundings, also in Bikers meetings as in June in Alhandra for Biker Club Aço na Estrada, Red Nights in S.Torcato-Guimarães, Nafarros-Sintra, Sobral de Monte Agraço and more recently participation in the National Meeting comité of MC and in the Rock & Fest tattoo in the Fundição de Oeiras.
In October of 2007 participation with two original themes in Colectânea " Rock Around Portugal" that joins the best national bands of the Portuguese scene.
The Dixie Boys returned in great shape, more ripened, disposed to do with quality that that more sits down. ROCKABILLY FOREVER AND EVER!
