ABOUT ME & THE WORK
Initially I had the same text here as appears on my Official web-site www.anthonycantons.com but why do i want to repeat myself?!
I work amongst other things as an painter and as aphotographer.
Regarding commercial work, i have been photographing motorsports in the USA for the last year and I have also designed the logo and website appearance for International Racing Consultants www.racetheworld.net and in 2007 have produced a CD album cover and booklet for Emma Cantons - jazz singer/songwriter, see her myspace site at www.myspace.com/emmacantons
PAINTINGS
There are currently five ongoing series that depict the world around us but not in a way we are necessarily accustomed to seeing.
The Way of All Things recreates the cycle of the seasons as one dies and a new one births. Each painting is created over several canvases. Technically the work is about colour and texture, a representation of the season and it’s mood.
In Secret World I am looking at viruses as they appear under the gaze of electron microscopes. The diseases enlarged to this degree are suddenly no longer the invisible enemy, they have character, they have personality – they are at once intriguing and horrifying.
New World Order series takes its source material from atomic bomb explosions. The themes of New World Order are various depending on the painting. Atomic explosions are a great depiction of both destruction and creation. I have sought to tie in politics, religion and something of the nature of man in the titles I have given the various pieces. The explosion is the creation and release of huge energy – it destroys all that was before it. It becomes a marker after which everything is different in comparison to how it was beforehand. This can in turn be applied to all aspects of our lives, behaviours and relationships.
In The Nature of Man series. I have sought to illustrate different points of human existence with different volcanic eruptions.
How can best convey what I think, see or feel? The question has led me to believe that whilst an artist can choose to embrace just one medium to create his or her art, I wish to be open to work with not just paint but also with any medium necessary. Additionally, since my work is rooted in the figurative, I have chosen to take artistic licence with my subjects over the portrayal of the final image.
I wish to make the dark appealing and thought provoking. To bring light to dark areas and discover what they can mean to us.
I seek to find beauty in dark places.
