The world needs a hero.
Around every corner bad stuff is out there lurking.
Because that's what bad stuff does. It lurks.
Not runs. Not walks, nor strolls. But lurks.
And so the question arises: Who will defend goodness?
Who will conquer hard-to-open peanut packages?
Stand up against washing machines that steal socks, and
vanquish restrooms of empty, deserted rolls of toiled paper?
Who will stand up and say "No. No, Pimple,
you will not make my day bad, nor you, Chewing Gum
stuck to the sole of my show. You can test my
patience, but you cannot take my smile."
Who will champion snooze buttons, clouds that
look like furry animals, and all-you-can-eat buffets?
Who will step into the ring and become
a Force of Good?

"So maybe, I thought, these Amish aren't in denial or mentally ill. Maybe they really are living better, richer, more wholesome lives, even if they are surrounded by Gap outlet stores and tourists. Maybe they have found some sort of excellent secret and are living with it, letting the world accelerate and brake and scream and crash and blow up around them. By day they offer us their Amishness, then at night they go home and experience a level of humanity and connection we've traded for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and The 700 Club"
"These things would be too much, if reason, unsupported by religion, were condemned to bear them alone. [...] and for my own part, trials, which in perspective would have seemed to me quite intolerable, when they actually came, I endured without prostration. [...] I have learnt that we are not to find solace in our own strength; we must seek it in God's omnipotence. Fortitude is good; but fortitude itself must be shaken under us to teach us how weak we are!" --Charlotte Bronte.
