Robyn Newman is a 25 year-old performing artist/singer/songwriter who is currently working with writers/producers Justin Gray (Joss Stone, Sugar Jones), Klaus Derendorf (Josh Groban, Carlos Santana), Dan Hill (Celine Dion), John Capek (Rod Stewart, Diana Ross, Cher), Brent Bodrug (Alanis Morissette, Jacksoul), and as well, has collaborated with Chin Injeti (Snow, Bass is Base), Andrew Fromm (Backstreet Boys, Marc Anthony, Nsync), Curtis Richardson (Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna), and Greg Critchley (Dixie Chicks, Hilary Duff)."Finally", a song that Robyn co-wrote with Andy Stochansky and Bruce Brody, was awarded 3rd place in the Pop Category of the Billboard World Songwriting contest. One of her co-writes, "You and I", was included on the Universal/Fontana North Canadian release by the artist "Introspect", and was the first radio single. Other co-writes, "That's What Best Friends Do", appeared on the Columbia Japan release of artist "Jodie", and "Before Me" was recorded by pop star Sandy Lam in Hong Kong. "Unperfect" was recorded by artist "Elin" and released on Edel records in Germany. Additionally, Robyn is a featured vocalist on "Everyday is a Holiday", included on the 2006 DVD "Pollyworld".Robyn debuted on radio as the featured soloist on the pop song Freaky, charting at no. 19 on Z95's top 30.
Robyn is regarded as a top session singer, having recorded demos and background vocals on hundreds of recordings for producers around the world. Robyn’s speaking voice can be heard in radio commercials for Greyhound and Staples, and in the fall of 2007, she sang in The National Ballet of Canada’s production of West Side Story.
Robyn has performed with the renowned Canadian rock group Glass Tiger as one of their backup vocalists, as well as with various local cover bands. Robyn was also seen singing backup during the halftime of the 2008 Vanier Cup for Sony/BMG's new group Ill Scarlet. During the Canadian Music Week’s songwriters’ showcase, Robyn shared the stage with writers Stephan Moccio (Celine Dion), Nile Rodgers (Madonna), and Glen Ballard (Michael Jackson) as a guest performer. She has also shared the stage with such artists as The Backstreet Boys, Dee Daniels, Bob McGrath, Jim Byrnes, and Amanda Stott, and has been a featured soloist around British Columbia’s Lower Mainland and in the United States at major sporting events.
In addition, Robyn is a graduate from the University of British Columbia, with a degree in Family Studies.
It has been said that Robyn is an extraordinary talent. She admires the work of Jill Scott, Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Aretha Franklin, Michael Jackson, Tower of Power, Brand New Heavies, Earth Wind and Fire, and Stevie Wonder, and always welcomes the opportunity to sing one of their songs. Indeed, Robyn is known for her soulful, heartfelt, and moving performances of power ballads as well as her dynamic interpretations of soul and R & B.
