About Me

Hey All!

A bit about me....

I was born and educated in Staffordshire before moving to the North of England in 1998 to undertake a BMus (Hons) degree at The University of Huddersfield, majoring in contemporary composition under Christopher Fox. In terms of classical music I have two passions - contemporary and film music. I chose Huddersfield because of my passion for contemporary music and their expertise in this field. At Huddersfield I also became heavily involved in the international contemporary music festival that is held there every year. In terms of my film music passion there was only one place I could go after I finished my bachelors degree, and so I took the brave decision in 2002 of becoming a southerner (!) and moved to London to do an MMus degree in Composing for Film and Television at the London College of Music and Media (LCMM), studying with the concert composer Cecilia McDowall, and the film and television composer Simon Lambros. While at the LCMM I was appointed the student fellow in composition, and besides my college commitments in this role, I also got to work with members of the BBC Concert Orchestra on film music based educational projects around the West London area. Within this context I was also able to work with the Oscar winnning composer Anne Dudley, in her role as composer in association with the orchestra.

Some of my music has been performed by the BBC Concert Orchestra, the Firebird Ensemble, the Solaris String Quartet, the LCMM Ensemble, the violinist Meiko Kanno.

I'm currently developing a style that sits between a contemporary idiom and the dramatic verve of film music - while also having fun trying out tunes in the rock/pop/ambient/chill out genre!

I'm also a huge film buff and book worm. On the film side anything goes really, although my favourite director is M. Night Shyamalan (The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, Signs, The Village, Lady in the Water). However, my favourite film is Cameron Crowe's Vanilla Sky, while my favourite book is Brave New World by Aldous Huxley.

On a much lighter note, i'm a huge, huge sports fan - football, cricket, athletics, rugby league, rugby union, and my favourite sport....american football!

Anyway, back to the music - I hope you like the tracks on here and I'd love to hear your comments about them, so either post a comment on this page or into my mailbox....either way, take it easy and have fun!
