Digital Distraction is a one-man experimental electronic project formed by Tim Stevenson in 2000. The tracks from the 2001 EP have been remixed and remastered recently and are once again online for the public to hear. If you want to write beautiful music (in the "goosebumps on your arms, rewind and listen until you fall asleep" sense), there are two parameters that absolutely must be addressed: harmony and voice-leading. I'm happy to report that Digital Distraction seems to have a pretty solid grasp on both. The harmonic progression in this track is so stunningly gorgeous that it really must be heard to be believed. The precedents are artists that might be new to folks with a strict diet of electronica: Scottish composer James MacMillan and glory years (late 80s) King Crimson come to mind. In fact, the sliding, high frequency component of the harmonic layer here really sounds a lot like some of the EBow work of Crimson's Fripp. Beautiful full review This is a brilliant seven minute piece of music. It pushes the boundaries of what we know as electronic music. Make your day and download Dark Matter by Digital Distraction. It is well worth the effort. Dark Matter full review
