About Me

Andrew Philips is a Reading-based singer/songwriter with a passion for all forms of music. He has released three CDs, and his songs cover a wide range of styles and genres:
WILFCD01: Random Acts Of Senseless Beauty, June 2001.
1. Catch My Heart
2. Come In, Number Six, Your Time Is Up.
At the time, most of my friends knew about my love of loud rock music, so these two slow, gentle songs took a lot of people by surprise.
WILFCD02: After the..., September 2002.
1. After the...
2. Lost Souls
3. Heart Shaped Lips
4. Come In, Number Six, Your Time Is Up (alternative edit).
After the... was intended to be a short, sharp shock. It's a three-minute belter, very different from everything else I'd done that far. Reviewers were somewhat bemused to hear it on the same CD as Heart Shaped Lips which is awash with synths and is far more sedate.
WILFCD03: Films And Stories, November 2004.
1. Threads
2. Videodrome
3. Child
4. Interview with Andrew Philips.
This CD also contains an Enhanced Element with a promotional video for (a remixed version of) Threads.
This is my Everything-But-The-Kitchen-Sink CD. Threads is a gigantic, lumbering rock epic; Child is infectious keyboard-based pop; and Videodrome is an industrial experiment, with a drum solo and an acoustic section thrown in. Plus there's the interview and the video I really pulled out all the stops for this one.
The first two CDs are no longer available, but WILFCD03 is still available from [email protected].
This site contains one track from each of these CDs, plus a rare unreleased song Promise Me.
Promise Me was a deliberate attempt at writing a glossy Pop Idol style hit single. I wrote it especially for my sister's wedding, at the behest of her partner, and I don't ever intend to release it on CD.
In 2005, Andrew surprised everyone by joining the Reading Operatic Society, who gave him a baptism of fire by casting him in the leading role of Giuseppe in their 2005 production of Gilbert & Sullivan's The Gondoliers. He has since appeared with the ROS as Alphonse in The Boy Friend, Pooh-Bah in The Mikado, Jud Fry in Oklahoma!, and Bill Bobstay in HMS Pinafore.
Andrew Philips (who is also called Wilf) keeps an online diary at http://planet-wilf.livejournal.com.
