Kaja

About Me

With a big heart in the tradition of klezmer and other folk music of east Europe Kaja makes musical excursions and mixes the tradition with new composing and improvisation. With great experience of tango, jazz, Swedish folk music, classic music, country and reggae the members of Kaja allow their music to find it’s own path and it’s own sound. Glissandos, backbeats and different ornaments reveals the members personal play styles, which makes the music come alive in a new peculiar way. The communication between them on stage is allowing, expressive, playful, intimate and tight. They flirt with a chamber musical expression without ever leaving the unpredictable spontaniousness within folc music and improvisation. With complete presence and interplay they create daring, innovative and absolutely beautiful music.
Kaja’s independent way of new thinking in composition and arrangement makes them representing something unique to the world music scene to day. The dynamic possibilities of the acoustic instruments make this trio suitable on small intimate venues as well as big concert places.
Biography
The members of Kaja first met in the spring of 2005 when touring with the band Kultiration. Back stage they started little jam sessions with klezmer and improvisation while waiting for entering the stage. Soon they started to create new music with inspiration from klezmer and other genres and gave their first concert in Gothenburg in front of an overwhelmed audience. The group Kaja was borne and the genre ”new klezmer” was found!
In the autumn of 2005 Kaja toured Sweden and they also worked together with Swedish singer-song-writers and as theatre musicians in Gothenburg.
In January 2006 they recorded ”Kaja” with two traditional klezmer songs and three own new compositions.
During 2006 they toured in the south part of Sweden and Germany. In Germany they were invited to perform two nights at the annual dance and music festival Tanz Tage in Potsdam. Kaja also had concert in Berlin in Oxident Bar.
Kaja have been performing at festivals, culture houses, theatres, museums, churches, events, clubs and private parties.
