About Me

CUMODITY..... this is the perfect word to describe this young talented man. Falling in love with hip hop at the age of twelve years old Cumodity was inspired by such artists as LL Cool Jay, Jay-z, and Nas. While perfecting his lyrics, Toney “Cumodity” Burgess jr. would record himself onto tapes over instrumentals and transfer them onto CDs. He single handedly handed out 500 copies around school and created a tremendous buzz about himself. Just like many others, Cumodity competed in numerous high school talent shows and won many awards, but was often heart broken because he felt that rappers would never win against R&B singers. At the age of 16 Cumodity stayed a summer with his cousin DJ Bless a producer for (MCA RECORDS) and learned a lot about production and the music industry. In just a couple of weeks Cumodity would see artist from all over the world fly in and out to complete there projects. They were in the studio all day writing and recording songs. “Sometimes we would stay up until five in the morning” Cumodity explains, because my cousin (DJ Bless) was responsible for making sure the artist was happy with his material. “ I was honored just to be able to witness all of this”. Cumodity realized that this game was way harder but more of a challenge then he had ever realized. He would leave his cousin, go back to Virginia, and create his own in house studio from the knowledge that he gathered from his cousin. Producing Many street anthems and getting spins in different record pools Cumodity was on his way to stardem. “Music was my everything” Says Cumodity” just like I learned on my visit, I would stay up all night writing and recording music, perfecting my flow and my production”. “That’s why I always say, I’m in my own world, because I really felt that way”. Cumodity would later compete in the American Music Search, and was scouted by the late Great 2pac Shakurs label “Amura Recordings”. That deal fell through but, It was time for Cumodity to make another visit to South Carolina to see his cousin again. This Time Cumodity was fortunate enough to get in the action. DJ Bless was putting a Compilation album out entitled Suicide Kings Vol. 2. Cumodity wrote one song on the album, and featured on the street anthem “Real live”, with Def Jams Keith Murray, and MCA’s King Capone. “ Till this day I thank my cousin every day for the opportunities he has given me”. Cumodity would come back to promote the Suicide Kings album in Virginia, and a mixtape that he was also featured on from South Carolinas own Charlemagne the Gods: Concrete Champ. While back home he would do shows in different venues and was asked to perform at a show thrown by up and coming Ashlie Luckett and featured R&B artist Tyra B. (Country Boy). By this time it was certain that Cumodity was defenitly a part of the Industry and a professional at what he does. Cumodity would later create his own independent label (Beat Killa Entertainment) and is about to drop his first solo album entitled Industry Ready 2. With his first single “City Trends” getting major spins, and street credibility, Cumodity has single handedly handed out 3,500 singles and flyers turning heads and gaining respect from the streets and many other talented local artists. “Keep Grinding Fam”, says Streets from a well known local rap in VA, and Mumeet Daddy from Trey Songz (Atlantic Records) current group the 804 boyz. These are Two of many people that I have really looked up to in my struggle, and have paved the way for me” says Cumodity. Grinding is one thing that Cumodity is good at and with this it is obvious that he is about to blow!!!
