The first dance music I was really listening to was the RatPack! These days its hard house, hard house, hard house!!!! One of my favourite tunes right now is Hybridize, so much fun and energy!
Ive been DJing on and off for about 5 years now. I had to stop for a while whilst i set up my businsess, but I'm back on it full force!! I normally play hard house or hard trance, but I like to try other styles as each one means using different mixing methods!
My first ever gig was December 2003 at a small night in Peterborough called Cosmosys. I played a mostly trance classics set due to the nature of the night. Got lots of good feed back from it! However the night failed as the bar owner did not have a licence! Then I set up the business so I had to put the DJing on hold for a bit. Recently Ive got back into it and upgraded to cdj's.
My second set was at a friends private party at The Venue in Long Eaton. I played a three and a half hour set to about 30 people. Good experience, but christ my ears hurt!!
My third set was at a local night in Rugby called Disturbance. I played an hour and a half and loved it! Again it was a small crowd but good experience as I had never used any of the equipment before, so a huge learning curve that night!!
The fourth set i played was at SUMMIT vs Nu-Religion at Hidden in London. 12am time slot too! I was very nervous before hand as it was my first full-on club gig! I had an excellent time, really enjoyed myself! The crowd seemed to like the music choice (I went for a mix of new and old anthems) with plenty of thanks afterwards for playing great set!
Just finished my latest cd "Mike Avery - A Hard House Demo". If you'd like a copy email me your address and I will stick one in the post! Would love to know what you think too, as an old friend of mine used to say "All feedback is good feedback!"
