Born in Denver, Colorado Jared Durham developed a love for sounds and music at an early age. Jared credits his mother Pearl and father James for his first musical influences. " I used to listen to my parents play their favorite songs by James Brown, The Righteous Brothers, Ray Charles, Otis Redding, Nat King Cole, Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis and many others. I actually got into musical instruments later upon our moving to Texas. I had a thing for the screaming lead guitars and the drums" In Junior High school Jared began playing drums and found out that he really had something special. "I played bass drum and drum set at first and I became so interested in music that I turned down playing football" High School is where Jared got introduced to the bass guitar. "Actually the cat who inspired me to pick up the bass back then is my pastor today" Jared also credits Charles Scott as one of his main bass influences. "Man Mr. Scott was the Cat on upright bass". He played with the Who's Who of musicians from Texas . You name them he played with them. Red Garland, Cedar Walton, Marchel Ivory, Thomas Reese, James Clay just to name a few. He also worked with Merle Haggard. Mr. Scott passed away a few years ago and I remember him saying to me "Man you got to lay it. While them singers, horn players, piano players and guitar players and drummers are playing all that stuff. You've got lock it down man" Jared has played in numerous jazz and funk bands as well as in church. "There's a lady musician in Texas that I play with that lays it like no other. Her name is Rachella Parks-Washington. She has a gift that is more precious than gold on the Tenor Sax. Stay tuned for her music to hit your ears and your soul. You'll be more than blessed" Currently Jared is working on his first solo project. "Things are going well and I hope my music touches the hearts of everyone that hears it"
