About Me

I edited my profile with Thomas Myspace Editor V3.6 !

Sugardrive formed in Sheffield in 1989 and split in 1993. They signed to Native records in 1992 and recorded the album 'See What Happens' in 1992. The album was completed but unfortunately Native folded and the album never saw the light of day. Sugardrive enjoyed a strong live following in Sheffield appearing at the Leadmill and a particularly inspired gig at the general cemetery on Cemetery Road. They also appeared at John Peel's (final) Roadshow as part of the Sheffield Sound City event in 1993.After the band split up Ginny left Sheffield for the bright lights of the capital as did Richard Woodcraft, who enjoys success as a recording engineer. Neal and Rich remained in Sheffield and Neal enjoys local fame with the Riddimtion Sound System. Rich recently emerged with the psych-folk Antique Doll and at weekends dons a sequinned cummerbund in his covers act Six String Razor.

Sounds Like: "Sugardrive have the ability for noise destruction in mid-song but occasionally take the avenue of extended transient instrumentals reticent of Sonic Youth and post Valentine traits. Basically if this band were pyromaniacs, the first five rows would leave needing skin grafts."M.Egan, November 1991.
