Early Beginnings
Mischulaikah Richardson was born to Lorna Richardson and Richinel Fazalalikhan in The Hague, Netherlands, Europe on April 12th 1984. Due to unfortunate circumstances her parents separated shortly after her birth and her mother decided to move to Capelle aan den IJssel where she grew up with her two younger sisters; Roxxiomarah and Tsjaichmaidah Richardson.
Mischu Laikah was born into a musical family. Her mother had always been active with music; she played the guitar, learned how to play the piano and often sang in choirs. Her sisters are admired singers along with other members of her family.
Her mother, Lorna, has been one of the biggest influences in her musical development. Lorna always felt that the knowledge of culture and social development was an important aspect in a person’s life, so at the age of three her mother enrolled her into ballet and music classes.
Mischu Laikah personally wanted to major in Ballet where she felt she could express her love for the art but that dream was taken away from her when the decision was made to leave Holland. It was around the age of twelve when her mom decided that they would leave the Netherlands and return to her mother’s birth island of St. Maarten. In 1995, St. Maarten was destroyed by hurricane Louis and this drastically changed life on the island. It created emotional and social changes in her life, where she went from having everything her heart desired, to having practically nothing.
Development of Mischu Laikah
The experience of hardship on the island made Mischu Laikah who she is today, her growth has been a lesson learnt every step of the way, it has humbled her and changed her in many ways, most notably; her taste in music but also her identity as a person. It was there she developed a greater appreciation for her Caribbean heritage.
During her growth in St. Maarten, Mischu Laikah continued to pursue her love for music, sparked by her nine year involvement in dance which included; ballet, jazz, tap, her knowledge of notes from playing the guitar at a young age and also her participation in the school choir. She entered into several competitions; won first place trophies and also had the privilege of performing for the Royal Dutch Family; Prince Willem Alexander and Princess Máxima in 2002 during their visit to St. Maarten.
In 2003 she returned to the Netherlands to pursue her studies but music continued to be a major influence in her every day life. During the summer of 2005 Mischu Laikah and her sister Roxxiomarah formed a ‘group’ called Cadence. With the help of their youngest sister Tsjaichmaidah, the group began composing and recording their own songs which turned into more than a hobby. The group produced catchy music with infectious lyrics.
New Beginnings
Mischu Laikah has decided to pursue music as a solo artist with her sisters still very much involved in the writing and composing of her music.
In 2007, she came into contact with Stonerich© Studio to record the successful track “Let me show youâ€.
The collaboration was promising and Mischu Laikah was convinced that she had finally found the studio where she feels most comfortable and wants to continue recording and developing her career.
She has since signed a management contract with Stonerich© Studio and together they are working to further develop her musical career.
Mischu Laikah’s goal is to broaden her audience’s perspective on Caribbean influences, which she incorporates into her music and to create songs that people can relate to. She has been performing and entertaining for a large part of her life and she absolutely loves the energy it brings while entertaining others. She says, “Sometimes it’s a challenge getting people to enjoy your craft, but nevertheless, the adrenaline and love you get back in return, is priceless. I want others to realize that life is a gift and that we should take absolutely nothing for granted.â€
There will be more exciting developments surrounding Mischu Laikah in 2008, as she continues to embark on her career as a rising star in the music industry.
