Brian Sulser is a much in demand professional upright bassist who has called Richmond home for more than 35 years. Upon receiving a B.M in Jazz performance in 1993 from VCU, he worked professionally on cruise ships and overseas for several years paying dues, honing skills and their practical applications, and learning the art of “entertaining†under the tutelage of seasoned band leaders. For over a decade he has been based solely in Richmond, teaching privately from his home studio and working professionally with groups that showcase his command of a variety styles and genre’s. These include “all good music, no badâ€, specifically Dixieland, Swing, Bebop, Cool and Fusion Jazz, Classical, Salsa/Meringue, Americana/Folk, Bluegrass, Old Time Country, Rockabilly and Blues.He plays, sings and is Musical Director of three energetic and diverse groups: Flying Sulsers, entertaining audiences for over 10 years with its raucous mix of jazz, swing, blues, bayou groove and Americana music where we invite you to join in the fun, bring your dancing shoes, plenty of smiles and leave your worries behind. JazzNecks with 2007 VFMA Fiddle Champion Dennis Elliott & Frosty Salsa with local singing sensation Jackie Frost. In addition he is a founding member of local swing band Chez Roué Orchette, and is a regular member of original alt-country trio Rockfish Willie, Cook County Bluegrass band, Charles Arthur Trio and Richmond Jazz Society’s Bright Moments band. He also regularly collaborates with area groups/musicians such as Page Wilson, Piedmont Souprize, Gypsy Roots, County Seat, Adrian Duke Projekt, and the John Conley Trio, among others.
In addition to performing, he arranges, composes and is an accomplished luthier with his own shingle: Flying Sulser Strings where he repairs & restores all manner of stringed instruments, with the primary focus on Upright Bass set up for optimum sound.www.sonicbids.com/FlyingSulsers
