Paulo Otávio

About Me

Paulo Otávio was born in a family of artists, nephew of theater director Antonio Abujamra and cousin of musician André Abujamra and actor Zé Victor Castiel, so it was natural for him to live among so many talents.
He started to sing in the heavy metal band called "Mantra" as a 14-year-old boy. Two years later he created the rock band named "Sobrecarga and then, in 1992 it was renamed Paulo Otávio e os Metralhas". At that time he assumed the role of the leader of the group. In 1996, he launched his first CD as an independent production and the clip "Louco por Você" was a hit on TV.
Two years later he moved to Hollywood, CA and there he produced "Acreditar Faz Bem" with the special participation of Gilby Clarke - ex-Guns & Roses guitar player, Eric Singer - Kiss drummer and Brazilian keyboard player Rique Pantoja.
During his stay in the USA he studied at Los Angeles Music Academy and there he could consolidate his knowledge of Brazilian music.
By the time he returned to Brazil he took part as a singer in the opera presentation Barbeiro de Sevilha and participated in the presentation of Cantos Afro-Brasileiro by Baden Powell and Vinicius de Moraes.
Reinforcing his eclectic musical nature he experienced an anthological presentation of his band with the special participation of Mestre Taranta and other Mangueira Samba School's members.
At present he lives in Rio and he has been researching the roots of the Brazilian music, mixing the traditional samba rhythm with black American music.
