Sometimes I feel bad for using the self-checkout. It’s like saying "Hey, librarians, you have been replaced by a machine!" And you’re being extra-verbose when you say it because you have to walk right by the desk to get to the machines and they make that KA-THUNK sound. What’s up with that sound, libraries? Every library makes that sound, I think. If only I knew where to look to find this information. Not the library, though, because that would be embarrassing. ANYWAY. I feel bad, but then it’s like, librarians do so much more than check-out books, man! They had to get a goddamn master’s degree for that shit! I’m not entirely certain what a master’s degree is–academia! I don’t understand!–but it sounds impressive and expensive and time consumptive. So, I don’t really feel bad for using the self-checkout.
