The Emerald Diamond

About Me

Looking for a CD of great Irish music? "The Emerald Diamond - Music From the Motion Picture" is the CD soundtrack from the feature film "The Emerald Diamond." The soundtrack features 24 songs plus movie quotes - a great mix of Irish rock and trad Irish music from bands like Shilelagh Law, Neck, Cady Finlayson, Icewagon Flu, Charm City Saints, John Walsh and Whiskey on a Sunday. It also features a song from former San Diego Padres infielder Tim Flannery and one from Joseph Mulvanerty of Black 47.
I heard about this movie on the community site myspace.com. A 90-minute documentary about the Irish National Baseball Team on a budget of $70,000 (Which was financed on credit cards) by first-time filmmaker John Fitzgerald. Being in radio/video production throughout my youth I found this to be one hell of an idea. However... to make for a great documentary or movie... the soundtrack has to be excellent to set the mood and to bring it home.
John Fitzgerald has put together one hell of a soundtrack here of some great Celtic Traditional/Rock/Punk bands. These are all great songs from great Celtic acts like Neck, Shilelagh Law, Charm City Saints, Icewagon Flu, Whiskey On A Sunday, and many more. This cd will get you in the mood for drinks... in the mood for fun... in the mood for baseball!
I can't wait to hear Whiskey On A Sunday's version of Take Me Out To The Ballgame at the next game I go to.
Pick this one up kids... it's a great mix of Celtic tunes... soon to be a hit. OK... that was corny... but I loved it.

This is Brian Kilmeade interviewing me on Fox & Friends on St. Patrick's Day.

My name is John Fitzgerald. I directed a film about the Irish National Baseball Team called "The Emerald Diamond."

The movie is technically a documentary, but it's funny and much more upbeat than typical documentaries - kind of like a "Behind the Music" about baseball, beer and national pride, but with three times the funny.

Baseball has been played in Ireland since the early 1990s. The Irish National Team had no fields, equipment or uniforms and most had never played baseball unless they had spent time in the US as kids.

Irish baseball has grown considerably since then. The Irish National Team is a medal contender in the European Championships. Several Irish players have played or currently play on Division I college teams. And youth baseball teams have sprung up all over the country, including Dublin, Cork, Kerry, Port Stewart and Greystones.

The movie was funded entirely on credit cards and cost over $70,000 to make. If you're interested in helping spread the word about the film, there are several things you can do:

-Check out the trailers on this page to get an idea of what the movie is all about

-Add the song you're hearing to your page... It's "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" by Whiskey on a Sunday and it appears in the film and on the CD soundtrack

-Visit my official website www.IrishBaseballMovie.com and buy a DVD or T-shirt or CD soundtrack (or all 3!)

-Print out a flyer and post it somewhere in your town. You can download the flyer HERE.

-Most importantly, TELL YOUR FRIENDS, especially anyone who loves baseball or Ireland

Thanks!
-John
