Morad Kalice – aka DJ Kalice – is Jordan's first proper underground DJ, with a career spanning 16 years and counting. It’s no surprise that he grew up learning the classics of jazz, funk, disco and new wave, with his first textbooks being the records and tapes that he found in his family’s library.Starting off with school parties and private events when he was just 14 years old, Kalice quickly scored a string of residencies at the most popular clubs in Jordan throughout the 1990s, followed by a short stint in Casablanca, Morocco during the summer of 2001.By then, Kalice had decided to focus entirely on underground music, being the first among his peers to push the boundaries of dance music in the region, and becoming the “DJ of DJs†in his ‘hood. He has made a name for himself playing a wicked blend of tech house and minimal techno, flavored with atmospheric streaks of synthesizers and unbelievable noises that compel anything with a heartbeat to move to the music.Kalice's years of hard work have earned him a respected name in the scene playing proper dance music for the masses. He is an in-demand DJ at most of Jordan's party scene, whether warming up, headlining, or closing at the country’s biggest events, including Distant Heat in Wadi Rum, one of the most important dance events in the Middle East. In 2004, he started a residency at Prana, which gained worldwide attention as Jordan’s proper underground nightspot. Putting the region in his sights, Kalice has played to packed houses in Beirut, Jerusalem and Dubai, where he has just been re-booked for a successful second event in a row.Leaving his crowds breathless, sweaty and often screaming with his sets, Kalice has appeared alongside Nick Warren, Deep Dish, Danny Howells, Anthony Pappa, Behrouz, Armin Van Buuren, Fred Numf, Hisham Samawi, DJ Dansz, Ceasar K and many other top notch DJs in the region.Kalice’s most recent production was his Double 8 Remix for Fred Numf’s latest release “Directions,†now available on Beatport. He is lining up several releases and is also looking to sign new talents on his startup label, Double 8 Records, which features a stable of regional DJs including Ohm, JW Halloway and more to come.
