The Knocks, (name derived from a slang word meaning heavy beats) unlike the typical band or rap group, we provide a unique and unprecedented sound of music with captivating vocals, blunt lyricism, and constant dabs into different genres. “This band has not only gotten the world wondering who they are, but what they are.†The band, The Knocks, are more than just inspiring artists thrown together in hopes of stardom. The Knocks are childhood friends, they say never mix business relations with friends, but for us, both are the same. The Knocks was formed in early 2005, but we really got interested in music in middle school in Los Angeles. It was there we got our first taste of stardom when some of us were members of a band. Being in a singing group in and out of the studio and performing is when we realized that music would play a major part in each of our lives. Working as individuals the four of us decided to venture out in different ways. All substantially trying to pursue and accomplish our dreams. It wasn’t long before we were all decided to form a group again. We’re singers, multi talented musicians, recording engineers and song writers. We’re not recreational musicians, we come with years of experience specifically in piano and drums. In alphabetical order the members are “James Cruz†(guitarist/pianist) “Alex Jack†(vocalist/piano/dancer) “Armani Smith†(vocalist/drummer) and “Anthony Vasquez†(vocalist/piano/drummer). We began making beats and trying to sell them in hopes of being producers, but eventually with a unequivocal love for the genres of all music. Feeling confined to hip hop and wanting to do and express ourselves in a spectrum of music. Our influence impressed the four of us, from classic rock, Beatles/Pop. Old school funk and hip hop is easily conveyed in our sound. The group comparable to the influential N.e.r.d. We dare not to reflect or mirror their groundbreaking sound, but to mirror their open minded sensibility and heed for escaping boundaries. We felt it was unfair to confine ourselves to one type of music nor restrict our talent as artist not to be able to exceed to another level musically. We make the beats; we write the songs. We’re four, but one in the goal to be true to our musicology. A Hip hop band that incorporates live instruments is already out of the box, but to do more than Hip hop is a risk. And that's what The Knocks are, risk takers believing that there is a market for those who want to hear something new something different that sets us apart from the rest. Labels won’t confine us, but individuality will. Is the commercial world ready for the open minded and creative individuals, who want to portray the world of music with some substance. Yes, we think so. The knocks represent and make music for the skating youth, the outcast children, the unique, the artistic, back packers, blue collars, college students. The confused who sit and play our songs who can relate to the situations and feel enlighten by the music. Our goal is to enlighten people, spread the music, build die hard fans, show the world something different and do the music we love. Like I always say “There is no such thing as failure as long as you process some results, you are moving in the right direction. The only one who can say that you can’t achieve something is yourself, as long as you believe in what you do, there are no limits to what you can do.†Just Listen...
