About Me

I'm not sure anymore what my next goal in life is (things abrubtly changed when I got promoted) but it could include being a farmer, getting a masters in science education, or a Green MBA.I have a box of worms living in my kitchen. I really like to read magazines, listen to classical music, go on road trips, cook food for people, be outdoors, go swimming or diving or boating or anything that involves water, watch little kids interact with each other and play "fiddle" or hang out at Old Town School of Music. I think I like to do other stuff too, but that's the stuff I like doing today.

My Interests

Education, environmental design, vermicomposting, organic farming, nature

I'd like to meet:

Do you really meet people on here? Or do you just show off all the people you already know?

Music:

Music that gets me most jazzed up at the moment: Rodrigo y Gabriela. My favorite live music experience is still Mucca Pazza at the Hideout--That is one amazing musical extravaganza. I'm also really into listening to classical on my way to and from work. Popular on my ipod: White Stripes, Suftjan Stevens, Cat Power, playlists made by Adrian, Baby Teeth, Iron and Wine, The Killers, Modest Mouse, Nirvana, Norah Jones, The Shins, Pearl Jam, The Magnetic Fields, Led Zeppelin, Van Mo, Dave Matthews (don't judge me!) hip hop, bluegrass, whatever.

Movies:

Wayne's World, Wet Hot American Summer, Juno, Once, Love Actually, Harry Potter, Amelie, Muppets from Space, Garden State, 40 Year Old Virgin, When Harry Met Sally, and any movie from Blue Planet.

Books:

Currently reading "The Earth Moved" (about earthworms), "Every Day Deserves a Chance", and "Eat, Pray, Love". My favorite book ever is Prodigal Summer. I also like Cradle to Cradle, The Secret Garden, The Tipping Point, Made to Stick, Harry Potter, anything by Toni Morrison and marine biology textbooks.

Heroes:

I found someone to put up on the pedestal!! Ken Dunn is my inspiration. http://www.resourcecenterchicago.org/dirmsg.html

How to stop catalogs from clogging your mailbox

I just read an article in the January issue of Martha Stewart magazine (that's right, I'm not ashamed!) and it was possibly one of the most useful articles ever.  In it it describes how to get yo...

A bottle bill for Illinois

In light of all the news about Chicago going green, I have been thinking a lot about the impact a bottle bill could have on the recycling efforts in Chicago.  I know many of you that currently l...

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again...I love the CTA

Today I took the Broadway bus from around North and Clark to Sheridan and Broadway.  It was the first time I'd taken the bus in quite some time. The man sitting across from me had black leather s...

Bamboo fabric is the shit

So I was at Bed Bath and Beyond last night picking out new sheets for my bed.  I have a queen size bed and so most sheet sets that are high quality are pretty damn expensive.  So I'm testing...

Support Mass Transit- I heart the CTA!

I love the CTA buses and trains, as slow, smelly, and unreliable as they can be.  I don't ride them to work because it nearly doubles the transit time and I'm always late as it is, but many ...
