Bio: Santana Moss established himself as a top-flight receiver in 2005, earning a Pro Bowl nod and setting a Redskins franchise record with receiving yards. In his first season in Washington, he logged 84 receptions for 1,483 yards, a 17.7-yard average, and nine touchdowns. He is a speedy, aggressive player known to produce big plays. Arriving in Washington in 2005 in a trade with the New York Jets, Moss immediately became a scoring threat in the Redskins offense. Moss played for the New York Jets for four seasons and accumulated 151 receptions for 2,416 yards and 19 touchdowns. In addition to receiving production, he has also returned 88 punts for 1,052 yards and two touchdowns.
NFL Acquisition: Selected by the New York Jets in the first round (16th overall) of the 2001 NFL Draft.
2005: Moss had a breakthrough season in his first year in Washington, earning a Pro Bwol nod for his efforts. He started and played in all 16 games and led the Redskins in receptions with 84, receiving yards with 1,483, and average per catch with 17.7. He also had nine touchdowns. His 1,483 receiving yards established a new single-season franchise mark, breaking a record held by Bobby Mitchell (1,436 in 1963).
* In Week 1 vs. Chicago, he led the Redskins with four catches for 96 yards, with a long of 52.
* In Week 2 at Dallas, Moss broke through on the national stage with a memorable performance. On Monday Night Football, Moss recorded five receptions for 159 yards and two touchdowns. He caught two TD passes, a 39-yarder and a 70-yarder, late in the fourth quarter to help the Redskins come from behind to defeat the Cowboys 14-13. For his efforts, he earned NFC Offensive Player of the Week.
* Moss's stellar play continued in Week 4. He led the team with six catches for 87 yards. He had a key 30-yard catch in overtime to help set up the Redskins' game-winning field goal.
* In Week 5 at Denver, Moss tied for the team lead in receptions with eight and led the Redskins in yards with 116.
* In Week 6 at Kansas City, Moss led the Redskins with 10 receptions for a career-high 173 yards and two touchdowns, one from 4 yards and another from 78 yards. The 78-yard score came on a wide receiver screen in which he followed blockers and burst down the sideline.
* In Week 7 vs. San Francisco, he logged his third consecutive 100-yard receiving game. He caught five passes for 112 yards and a 32-yard TD.
* In Week 16 vs. New York Giants, Moss tied for the team-high with five receptions and had 160 yards and three touchdowns. He caught 17-yard and 59-yard TD passes from Mark Brunell and a 72-yard TD pass from Patrick Ramsey. For his efforts, Moss was named NFC Offensive Player of the Week.
* In the Redskins' Divisional Playoff game in Seattle, Moss logged a team-high seven receptions for 103 yards, with a long of 39. In the fourth quarter, he caught a 20-yard touchdown pass from Mark Brunell.
