Producers Phil Bunch and Franck Balloffet, along with singer/songwriter Richard Clayton and bassist Bill Bowman, are never never band, partially owing to a harsh melodic reference to legendary Who drummer Keith Moon, who as a youth purchased his first set of drums from a U.K. shop on a layaway payment plan. In England, that action is called putting it on the never never.
Clayton is the principal lead singer/songwriter and lyricist in never never band on the first three collections available. This batch of songs mirrors the traditional song structure and influences of the Brill Building writers and producer Phil Spector. Verse and chorus specific. Songs of love, pain and loss, desire. Bowman was previously with Black Flag's Dez Cadena and Minutemen/firehose's George Hurley.
