The Jacksonville Suns are the Double-A affiliate of the Florida Marlins and are members of the Southern League. The Suns play at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville in Florida. The 2005 Southern League Champions had a tremendous season in 2006 despite the inability to repeat. At midseason the Suns boasted a 48-22 record, giving them the 2nd best first half record in all of minor league baseball, which was highlighted by a 15-game win streak. The Suns dominated the 2006 Southern League All-Star game with 13 players nominated and 9 players present, the other four were either promoted or injured. The end of the season also had its share of highlights. The Suns lead the Southern League in attendance for 2006 with a mark of 404,992 total, giving them the second best record since the teams inauguration. Manager of the Suns, John Shoemaker, was named Southern League Manager of the Year after leading the team to an 86-54 regular season record that ties a Suns franchise best. Suns starter Spike Lundberg was honored with the Most Outstanding Pitcher award after finishing the season with a 15-2 record and a 2.27 ERA.
