About Me

I edited my profile with Thomas’ Myspace Editor V3.6 !
IF YOU LOVED "THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA" HERE'S A PEAK AT THE HILARIOUS UPCOMING BOOK "GLAMBOOZLED, MY LIFE INSIDE THE WARPED WORLD OF LUXURY RETAIL" WRITTEN BY NEW YORK CITY FASHION SALES ASSOCIATE COREY POWELL. Having the means to shop within the world of luxury high end retail is only a dream for most of us. Instead, we've turned to shows like “Dynasty” and “Sex and the City” for a tantalizing peek into how the elite live – or at least how they buy. Glamboozled takes an even closer and more unvarnished look into this world of craziness and couture through the stories of my experiences as a sales associate at the one of the world's most renowned department stores on 5th Avenue in New York City. The hiring process alone was one of the most peculiar experiences I ever encountered. It was humorous yet revealing of a corporate culture that was almost a secret society. Once I was hired, it got much stranger immediately. Staff members were directed to greet guests, smiling and bowing like robotic Geishas as the doors opened each morning. Then there were morning meetings conducted with the fervor of a religious cult with employees pledging vows of loyalty to the store as they worked, fought, slaved, and competed with each other viciously for commissions that would never materialize due to the store’s cleverly deceptive commission policies. The cast of characters and incidents in the store created an even more delicious banquet of the bizarre: undercover drag queens, transgendered men, belly dancers, strippers, men wearing lipstick, live goats, painted nudes, shirtless male models, eccentric celebrities, shoplifters, flashers, real desperate housewives, lonely customers looking to talk, out of control customer K-9s, employees having sexual relations, bloody fistfights, employee gun threats over alleged stolen clients, and other scandals. It was more like a circus sideshow than a department store.
