About Lambda Sigma GammaOn November 18, 1990, twenty-seven women established the fourth chapter of Lambda Sigma Gamma here at California State University, Fresno. Our Founding Mothers established a strong foundation for our future generations and we have been fortunate enough to excel in achieving our goals.Lambda Sigma Gamma, a multicultural sorority, which was founded on October 24, 1986 at California State University, Sacramento. Since then, twenty one chapters have been established.The purposes of this association are to instill the desire for self improvement, scholastic excellence, and cultivation of civicLambda Sigma Gamma Sorority was founded on the campus of Sacramento State University in 1986. Our Founders realized that the campus did not offer an organization that met the needs of women from minority backgrounds. They were interested in forming an organization that would not only act as a family away from home, but that would also bring together women from various backgrounds and incorporate the principles of self improvement, scholastic excellence, civic responsibility and leadership. Lambda Sigma Gamma Sorority became a reality on October 24, 1986, when twenty-seven women sharing the same interest, beliefs and goals came together. Since then, 21 additional chapters have joined our family, with our most recent chapter at California State University, Fullerton on November 20, 2004 . Over the years, Lambda Sigma Gamma has grown to include thousands of women from different creeds, ethnicity's, cultures, social-economic backgrounds, physical talents, mental abilities and sexual preferences. We are continuously growing and welcoming new women to take part in our sisterhood.Lambda Sigma Gamma is an academic, community, social, and multi-cultural sorority. We are a solid network of women in higher education, who have chosen to unite in order to enhance our college experiences. Lambda Sigma Gamma was founded with the purpose of creating a support system for women once they have entered the university. We provide our members a family away from home - in order to facilitate the retention of motivated students. Through the support its' members offer each other, Lambda Sigma Gamma has developed a strong, safe and loving environment where friendships grow, characters build, knowledge is shared, and a multicultural sisterhood is created.MulticulturalismLambda Sigma Gamma is a Multicultural Sorority. As Sisters, we believe that Multicultural is not just a word, but rather a deep rooted feeling which lies in our hearts. As individuals, we have come together from different parts of the world. We are from different creeds, ethnic groups, and socio-economic backgrounds. We accept women with different interests, majors and religious beliefs. Our physical talents and mental abilities vary, and we may have different sexual preferences. It is within these differences that we choose to unite our lives and share our dreams, in hopes of educating one another and bettering ourselves. We continuously strive to meet our goal of bringing together women from diverse worlds under the spirit of Multiculturalism.Lambda Sigma Gamma is a support group and a family. It is a multicultural sorority, which encourages women to take part of our sisterhood. We believe that no two people are the same. We all have different dreams, needs, and goals. Our diversity impulses our growth. It gives us the energy to continue onward by building upon a strong foundation and working together with mutual trust and respect that we can create a world of brighter promise. The diversity and creativity of our members have helped us become leaders. We value the diversity of our members, their talents and perspectives, which are the foundation of our success.AcademicsOur principle purpose for attending a university is to receive an education, therefore Lambda Sigma Gamma acts as a strong foundation for encouraging academic achievement. Via informational workshops, effective networking, and strong support from one another- the sisters of Lambda Sigma Gamma strive toward its primary goal of Academic Excellence.
