Rare Breed

About Me

RARE BREED are a 5 piece mainly acoustic band. We do this because we enjoy playing together and exploring different musical and emotional textures. This is an ongoing experience and is endless. We enjoy writing and performing our own material (There's nothing quite like it!), but also enjoy some Classic and some more obscure covers. We enjoy working with different rythyms and strong harmonies and can encompass many extremes from "Lush to "Hell Bent For Leather". We also have the ability to create a broad sound canvass due to the wide array of instrumentation and experience within RARE BREED..... In short we're very happy with our current situation and as such are looking to record an album in the near future and to increase our range on the gigging front. At the end of the day we want to go out and entertain you people, that's why we're here....Hope you all enjoy our music and that you get to live your dreams......ps don't feel obliged to read the rest of the crap I've written on here, it's only there because some people like to read about that kind of stuff!...................................................... ...................................................... TONY MAY Lead Vocal, acoustic, electric guitars, bass guitar & bass drum......Tony has worked as a full time musician, producer & engineer for over fifteen years, working extensively on the live music scene both as a solo artist, as well as playing with various bands, including Satori, who recorded there first of a projected two albums "Time" for "A New Day Records" with guest Fairport Convention violinist, Chris Leslie. Unfortunately Tony was involved in a serious car accident before the second album could be recorded leaving Tony unable to play guitar, and consequently the band split. Prior to this Tony toured as guitarist for the American new country singer Katy Moffat, and was quoted by the press as being The best UK country guitarist! During a three-year period, Tony managed to produce, play and sing over fifteen top 20 European Country chart hits, including three number ones! As well as being a prolific songwriter Tony is a multi-instrumentalist, and after signing a publishing deal with Warner Chappell in 1997 he recorded his first solo album "Mother Earth", writing 90% of the songs, he also played all of the instruments as well as engineer and produce. Nine years on Tony has now fully recovered and is back with a vengeance................................................... ................................................SIMON BROOKS Percussion , Bass, VocalsSimon has added some punch to Rare Breed and also given the outfit a modern feel with his interpretation of our music. A truely great drummer, his weapons of choice for the live show are 2 congas and a tambourine (played with his foot!!), shakers and Bass Drum. He spends many evenings with friends "spinning discs" on his own decks which he has at home and is consequently very in touch with modern music as well as having an appreciation of more classical and trad music styles...................................................... ...........................................................L IZ MAY Trumpet, Keyboards, Vocals......Liz is a classically trained Trumpeter and has been playing in orchestras and jazz bands since her school days. Rare Breed is her first attemp at a more "Modern" musical field and she brings to the band an expression of emotion and feel that adds greatly to our sound. Although a recent addition to the band (joining in early 2007) she has been writting with Tony since last year and brings great talent to the band with her lyrics ............................................................ .......................................................GARET H SAMPSON Bass, GuitarGareth is the newest and yet the oldest member of RARE BREED! His experience shines through and is undeniable, this was shown when he joined the band and learnt 30 songs impecably b4 his first gig with us in less than two and a half weeks!!! He is an excellent guitarist and has played in a few bands as a guitarist, however his instrument of choice is bass and it shows as he is very comfortable and quick to pick things up.......................................................... .....................................................
