About Me

I've been playing and writing music for over 20 years. I started on classic rock. It was the John Entwistle solo on My Generation that made me want to play bass. It was one of the first things I tried to learn because I figured if I could play that, then I could play anything. I was wrong. Then I got into Jaco Pastorius and jazz. I switched to upright bass in college and started playing with a bow. I played classical orchestral music and then tried to play Indian classical music on the upright bass. That was difficult. All the while I had been writing songs on the guitar or piano. In college I started writing instrumental music and music for film. I also got the chance to live in Paris for a year, performing with Parisian jazz groups and travelling to Morocco and Turkey. After finishing school at UC Berkeley I stuck around the Bay Area for several years and worked primarily as a session bass player. In '97 I moved to New York to focus on writing music for film. I did 4 features while living there, most notably Desert Blue, starring Kate Hudson, Christina Ricci, Brendan Sexton, and Casey Affleck. In 2003 I moved back to where I started, Ohio, formed a band, and have been focusing on recording all the songs that I've been writing all of these years. Our first CD, Space Cadet, is now for sale online at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/vytas. You can also buy it in Toledo at Culture Clash, or electronically on iTunes. We're working on our second CD right now. It will have 20 songs that we've been playing at Manhattan's every week for the last 3 years. In the coming months I'll be starting work composing a score to a feature film, Glass City, that I'm very excited about. It features so much great talent from Toledo and I'm honored to be a part of it. For more info go to www.glasscityfilm.com
