PURPLE NATURE SOUNDZ REVEIW - PALACE THEATRE GIG 29th SEPT 07
"For El Coda it already feels like they could do something exciting. They harness everything that’s good about modern rock, the swagger and the power is all there. The front man, Jimi Stewart, donning an Unknown Pleasures t-shirt, towers over the thin crowd, breaking strings like clockwork. The regular bass spot is taken up with the keyboards, which gives Coda’s sound a great lushness. The fact that they’ve already got an EP in the works proves that this band means business. Here’s hoping it has the power which this early gig promises. !"
NIKI - AEON BOOKER FOR THE VOODOO LOUNGE , PLYMOUTH
"Its always hard for a young band making the transition onto the main gig circuit and Friday night was no exception. Stepping up to it in front of a thin crowd at the beginning of a night in front of bands you admire who are well established and knowing there are management and record label crew making up most of the punters means you have 2 options, fall flat on your arse and know you wont get booked again or deliver the goods and hold everyone’s attention. El;Coda pulled it off beautifully, impressing both those that mattered and more importantly the students that were in early out of curiosity as well as the cheap beer. Frontman Jimi is an outstanding guitarist with great depth and tone to his voice and a natural ease on stage that most guys would kill for. Neither pretentious nor arrogant he slammed through a solid 30 minute set with minimal banter between songs, keeping the pace building with anthemic chorus’s and progressive instrumentals, and don’t let that term put you off, there’s no fret-wanking here and the drumming is sharp as machine gun fire.
I for one am excited to see a young band pushing boundaries with their sound whilst not trying too hard to be cool."
