About Me

Scott Drewes is the drummer with the United States Military Academy Band Jazz Knights at West Point, NY and co-leader of the group The Drewes Brothers with Doug Drewes. He is a former drummer with the Air Force Bands where he had the opportunity to perform for Presidents Jimmy Carter, George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush. He has performed with Bobby Watson, Benny Golson, Scott Wendholt, Gary Smulyan, Rufus Reid, John Pizzarelli, Larry Goldings, David Baker, Greg Hopkins, Chris Vadala, Jane Monheit, Jiggs Whigam, Billy Pierce and Ted Rosenthal. He has been heard at many venues across the United States such as Chicago Symphony Hall and Powell Symphony Hall in St. Louis as well as jazz festivals across the nation. Scott has also performed on Good Morning America and has recorded a PBS special that will be released sometime in the fall.Scott is also an active educator. He is currently on the faculty at Dutchess Community College and has given clinics/masterclasses at Illinois State College, University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music, Rutgers University, Smith College, Amherst College, University of Alaska, Fairbanks and many high schools throughout the United States as well as Band Conventions through out the Northeast. He is a former faculty member at Camp Encore/Coda in Sweden, ME.Scott went to the North Carolina School of the Arts for high school where he studied percussion with Massie Johnson. After high school, he went on to receive his bachelor of music degree in jazz studies from Manhattan School of Music where he studied with Justin DiCioccio. After undergraduate school, he went to the University of Maryland, College Park where he received his master of music degree in jazz studies. Here he studied with Steve Fidyk and Chris Vadala. Scott has also studied under John Riley and Bob Gullotti.

Influences: I play Sabian cymbals. Check them out at www.sabian.com . My 22" Artisan Light Ride with three rivets is the best ride cymbal I have ever played. I have been looking for that Old K sound and even owned one and that Artisan is better and I have never been happier.
