My Interests

Pacifism
It is of the utmost importance that I state that I believe that peace is the ultimate ideality but that violence is an inevitable means to achieve such a goal.

Mahatma Ghandi was asked an interesting question during World War Two. He was asked what type of action the Jews should aim to do in regards to Hitlers ultimate goal to exterminate all of them. Ghandi's responce was that the Jews shoud "conduct a mass suicide." Now, this doesn't seem to be a very peaceful or non-violent way to deal with a situation. It seems impossible to me that you can evoke a revolution with peace when a tyrant is using violence as a means to accomplish a goal. In the course of both parties actions, you would find that the pacifists idea to peacefully protest a change will be trampled overwhelmingly by a tyrants violence.

This is an example that holds true in quite a few occurances. The most recent is Saddam Hussiens violent actions on his own people and the thousands of deaths surrounded by his actions. His reign of "terror" wasn't stopped until the United States came in and took control using violence. Think about what would have happened if we went over to the Iran or Iraq border with signs saying: "Stop killing your own people."

The obvious and unfortunate truth is that violence is a needed tool to evoke change in a society with conflicting morals and opions. History has shown us that, like Anarchy, peaceful protesting is beautiful in theory but ultimately impossible.
