i lived from 1809 to 1849.I died from unknown causes. I am a American poet, short-story writer, and critic, b. Boston. I am acknowledged today as one of the most brilliant and original writers in American literature. My skillfully wrought tales and poems convey with passionate intensity the mysterious, dreamlike, and often macabre forces that pervaded his sensibility. I born in Boston, Massachusetts, to parents who were itinerant actors. My father David Poe Jr. died probably in 1810. Elizabeth Hopkins Poe died in 1811, leaving three children.I was taken into the home of a Richmond merchant John Allan. My remaining brothers and sisters were cared for by others.My brother William died young and sister Rosalie become later insane. At the age of five I could recite passages of English poetry.
