The Center for Young Women's Development (CYWD) is one of the first non-profit organizations in the United States run and led entirely by young women. Our mission is to empower and inspire young women of color who have been involved with the juvenile justice system and/or the underground street economy to create positive change in their lives and communities. We believe that every young woman deserves opportunities to learn and grow. CYWD knows young women need a caring and compassionate environment in which to learn about themselves, to acquire new skills, and to advocate for their needs and those of their sisters. We work with young women between the ages of 16 - 24 to provide employment, academic counseling, case management, and community. Young Mothers United is our support group for young mothers who would like to expand their knowledge of how to nuture a child and covers everything from proper nutrition to CPS. Sister Circle is our support group for young women just getting out of juvenile hall or the California Youth Authority.
