Get Your Own! | View SlideshowRicardo Phillip aka Flixter, Da Gal Dem Internet was born and raised in St. James POS on the island of Trinidad and Tobago. He enjoyed singing at a very early age where he joined his church choir, his tender voice echo through his listeners. He competed in his first competition at the age of 9 where he encountered his first and only battle with stage fright, only to be encouraged by his mother to try again. He entered into the Junior Calypso Competition when he was 14, placing 2nd to a well known artist of today. Music became a huge dream of his as he admired such artists as Dennis Brown, Bob Marley, Jacob Miller, Burning Spear and Peter Tosh just to name a few. He enjoyed playing the Steel Pan (Double Seconds) at Mucurapo Senior Comprehensive, where they won the High School Pan-O-Rama Championship and he later played with Hummingbird Pan Groove then Trintoc Invaders.
Upon his family's move from Trinidad to New York, he hooked up with a couple of sound systems and started DJaying in 1985. He DJayed with Volcano Sound and Macabee Hi-Fi where he then was known as Rick Star. In 1987 he joined Boom Squad Massive then known as Scorcher. He later joined Black Legend and Black Love and djayed along side his brothers, The Wizzard and Trini. While DJaying, Flixter played alongside sounds like Stone Love, Libra Love, Super Dee and Afrique Sound, etc. This allowed him to meet Red Fox and work with World of Girls, Screechy Dan, Ruff Scott, Rob Symeonn and one of Reggae greats Danny Dread. In 1988, Flixter moved to South Carolina where he joined his church choir as a song leader. In 1997, Flixter returned to New York and his desire for singing became even greater. He started singing as one of the lead singers with the band Legal Kulture in 2003.
In the spring of 2004 he decided that he wanted to concentrate on his solo career and hooked up with Gulliano Wells of Rare Groove Productions and Al Norty From The Ground Up Productions. While performing at venues such as Nightengales (with an upcoming reggae artist named Ra Sekhem), M15, The Groove and The Baggot Inn, backed by The Gideon Band. While performing at The Baggot Inn he sang along side Terry Blane, Banta Lei and Raskahl Int. They recently finished his first single and video entitled, Jah Love which debuted in June 2006. In the summer of 2006 he preformed at the album release party of fellow reggae artist Ras Fitzgeral along side Rob Symeonn, Sluggy Ranks, Banta Lei, Wilo Wilson and Bigga Haitian. He is also working with fellow artist/producer Banta Lei on an upcoming project. It has been a long road for the little boy who had a big dream in Trinidad to the man you see and hear today. But one thing is constant, Flixter never gave up on his dream, he continues to mesmerize his listeners with songs like.... Jah Love, Light It Up and others, also appearing on a compilation Album with his single "Angel" soon to be released in the UK, USA etc.Get Your Own! | View Slideshow
