Band Members: Ross + Steve + Dave + Ryan = Plutoniates
Friends of Plutoniates = Jason, Ethan
Influences: Life, our friends, the musicians we've played with, and the music we've listened to which, between the three of us, spans literally every genre there is.
Sounds Like: It's ok to say our name wrong. We've not been compared to many bands out there. We commonly hear "new" and "unique" when people try to describe our sound. Truth is though, nothing's truly new; everything has roots somewhere. So where are our roots? Well, everywhere.
Just imagine an acoustic guitar, except the acoustic guitar is being played rather vigorously, almost like it's an electric guitar. This is not your mother's Garfunkel (or was that Simon?). I'm too lazy to look or care. So this acoustic guitar is played in a percussive style, with lots of focus on rhythm, accent, and 7th chords. Oh, and it's rarely ever technically perfect. Sloppy's not the right word. Maybe groggy.
So you have that. The acoustic guitar. Behind that rides a slick drum beat that is sometimes a steady, driving 4/4 and at other times in a moment can switch to provide alternative, echoing accents between the guitar and the drums. It's knowing what to play, and when to play it.
The cream is in our nice, fat (thin) fretless bass guitar. The bass lines often walk down a path divergent from the acoustic guitar, but similarly arranged. Often times, the bass and guitar lines intertwine, which at times can provide some powerful chord voices. Plus, there's the overall groove. Yes. There is groooove too.
Then we've got our aux man. The aux man. He's an axe man some of the time, plays electric guitar some of the time. Plays theramin (still haven't verified the correct spelling) on a few songs, and has a slew of instruments that HE CREATED (in other words, unique to the planet Earth) that we plan to utilize to better hearken back to our astral ancestral roots.
And the voice is laced with cigarette smoke. Not the kind of crooning that will soothe all minds. But there's something there to fill space with words that sometimes have deep meaning, and sometimes offer great potential for personal interpretation. Those are songs that still need better lyrics.
Hopefully, you have an idea. Oh yeah, you can listen to us too up in that player above and to the right.
