Eden Mi Qedem

About Me

It all started: American born Samuel (the leader), age 33, grew up listening to and playing the psychedelic 60/70s Rock of the West. Nevertheless, many years ago in Southern Egypt when he first heard the popular local singer Ahmad 'Adawiyya's music, he was amazed at how familiar it felt and how so many elements were akin to the music of his youth: He became an instant fan. Later, he continued on to study with local masters of Classical Middle Eastern music and singing in Jerusalem, and in his own music slowly began to synthesizing that tradition with Western Rock/Pop elements and modern beats.Psychedelic Middle Eastern? Jerusalem, 2001, Samuel sought to establish a band which could to give voice to his own developing style of world fusion that was cultivated from his many influences. Bringing together some of the regions top young musicians (of middle eastern and of rock) he began to put together a band which would later become the 'Eden Mi Qedem of today. The group's live performances have shocked and inspired, as they interweave dance loops, "Edge" like guitar, "Grateful Dead" like jams, and Middle Eastern melodies and instrumentation.'Eden Mi Qedem/'Aden Min Qadeem: The group, whose name in Hebrew and Arabic means "Ancient Eden," is a rare beacon of light from a troubled region. It unabashedly draws inspiration from the Hebrew Bible as well as the Muslim call to prayer, and shows the beauty that is possible when the Jewish and Arab cultures and faiths work in harmony. To purchase the disk or hear more samples check out:http://cdbaby.com/cd/emq
